CA or CAV

Abbreviation for “Cloud Avenue”.

ECC

Abbreviation for “Cloud Customer Space”.

ESXi

VMware ESXi is the operating system of a physical server that enables server virtualization. It is the so-called “hypervisor” layer, which integrates many features such as high availability and distributed firewall.

Mbps

Megabits per second.

NGP

Next Generation Platform: a new platform for the Cloud Avenue offering, more modern, providing new features as well as better costs.

NSX-T

VMware software that falls into the “SDN, or Software Defined Network” category; allows the implementation of all the complexity of a network solely through software. NSX-T is fully integrated with vDC and is available on the NGP platform.

NSX-V

VMware software that falls into the “SDN, or Software Defined Network” category; allows the implementation of all the complexity of a network solely through software. NSX-V is fully integrated with vDC and is available on the Cloud Avenue platform. The current production version will reach end of support from VMware starting January 2023.

PAYG

Pay As You Go: means payment based on usage.

PESGi

Provider Edge Service Gateway Internet: this is the gateway managed by the platform that allows the client’s organization to connect to the internet.

T0

NSX-T gateway that connects external networks to the client’s organization.

T1

NSX-T gateway that connects vDCs (and their networks) to the T0 gateway. VMware Cloud Director, also known as vCloud Director, is the cloud resource management software used to provide tenants with dedicated resources from a shared infrastructure.

VCDA

vCloud Director Availability is the VMware product integrated into VCD, allowing VM replication.

vCF

vmware Cloud Foundation : encompasses a software suite that enables SDDC (Software Defined Data Center).

vCenter

VMware Center, also known as vCenter, one of the most widely used virtual infrastructure management software in the private cloud world. Together with vCloud Director, they form the foundation of a multi-tenant infrastructure.

VM

Virtual Machine

vmdk

Virtual Machine Disk, is the file present on the datastore that constitutes the hard drive of the VM. A VM can have multiple vmdks, grouped in a single physical disk or constituting different physical disks.

VPN

Virtual Private Network: an encrypted communication tunnel between two points or among multiple points.

vRA

VMware vRealize Automation, also called vRealize Automation, is the cloud resource management software used in a private cloud, providing a level of hardware abstraction and a simplified user experience for resource utilization.

vSAN

VMware SAN is the software that presents SAN storage to ESXi servers by aggregating the local storage of each server in the cluster. In the case of “hyper-converged” servers, which include both computing power and storage, the vSAN solution provides redundancy and scalability to a dedicated cluster by adding new servers (or nodes) to the cluster.
