Changing VM Storage Policies
Overview
You may ‘hot’ modify the storage type of a VM’s disk if needed. You can associate a different storage policy for each disk as you see fit.
Prerequisites
In order to do so, you will need access to your VMs as follows:
Please note !
The “VM default policy” corresponds to the storage policy defined during each VM deployment.
View the Default Storage Policy
From the VM DETAILS > General > Storage Policy
Modifying the Storage Policy of a Disk
Using Storage vMotion technology, it is possible to perform hot migrations of storage policies while the VM is powered on.
From the VM DETAILS, in the “Hardware” section, navigate to “Hard Disks” and just modify your storage policy as you see fit.
The disk (vmdk file or .vmdk) will be moved to a datastore of your selected storage policy choice.
Modifying the Storage Policy of a VM
You may ‘hot’ modify the storage type of any/all VMs.
If you would like to do this, please to the VM DETAILS tab, and then navigate to the following options:
> General > Edit > Storage Policy.
The VDC must have the desired storage policy.
All files of the VM (VM Folder) will be moved to a datastore dedicated to the storage policy.ge.
