3rd Availability Zone now available in Paris
Flexible Engine
Release Notes
April 27, 2020
Flexible Engine’s Paris region now supports a third availability zone or AZ. This major update will enhance the resiliency of the platform and any architecture that takes advantage of this new capability. This third availability zone will allow you to:
- Create and deploy cloud resources within this third availability zone.
- Distribute your services across multiple availability zones.
As a reminder, an availability zone is an isolated set of resources within a distinct Data Center sufficiently distanced from other datacenters to allow the setup of a local resiliency within a Flexible Engine Region here, Paris. An AZ has independent access to the electrical grid, network, cooling and ephemeral storage. The maximum latency between two AZs is 2ms.
Paris’s new AZ is hosted within a tier IV datacenter that includes power redundancy and cooling redundancies along with a host of certifications including ISO22301, 27001 and PCI DSS. A full list of Flexible Engine’s 3rd AZ datacenter certifications is available in a table below.
On this AZ you will be able to create standard ECS flavors (S3, C3 and CC3) attached to block storage (EVS), backup your cloud servers (CSBS) and you will of course benefit from the platform’s native anti DDoS services. A full list of available and planned services is available in a table below.
Overall, this 3rd availability zone will allow you to protect your assets by removing the single point of failure that can be inherent in single AZ architectures. It allows your applications to benefit from a distributed architecture as having an odd number of nodes facilitates Quorum/distributed architectures (particularly for Cloud Native applications).
In order to deploy Cloud resources to this new AZ, simply access your Flexible Engine technical console, and select Elastic Cloud Server. You will then be able to select on which AZ you wish to deploy your ECS.
