What’s new?
An upgrade has been done on e-Backup which is one of the main components of Cloud Backup and Recovery (CBR), by migrating its nodes from XEN to Kernel-based Virtual Machine (KVM). KVM is a virtualization module in the Linux kernel that allows the kernel to function as a hypervisor. It was merged into the mainline Linux kernel.
Cloud Backup and Recovery (CBR)
What is it?
Cloud Backup and Recovery (CBR) enables you to back up Elastic Cloud Servers (ECSs), Bare Metal Servers (BMSs), Elastic Volume Service (EVS) disks, SFS Turbo file systems, with ease. In case of a virus attack, accidental deletion, or software or hardware fault, you can restore data to any point in the past when the data was backed up.
Enhancements
This upgrade improve CBR’s performance tremendously, because the backup rate of KVM is two times faster than XEN. Backup and restore rates of KVM are 200MB/s while XEN is limited on 100MB/S. In addition, ECS and EVS backup size will be consecutively 4TB and 32 TB which means that we can backup bigger volumes.
Reminder
We take this opportunity to invite our customers who use CSBS and/or VBS to migrate to CBR as soon as possible because these 2 services will be stopped in 2023.
