Flexible Engine Elastic Cloud Server introduces new S6 instance series for general-purpose use cases
Flexible Engine
Release Notes
January 1, 2021
Elastic Cloud Server (ECS) is Flexible Engine’s virtual machine service based on Openstack which offers a wide choice of flavors designed to run your workloads on highly performant instances at the best price.
ECS has receive the following updates :
Elastic Cloud Server is updated with a new New P2S instances for GPU-accelerated use cases. They are equipped with NVIDIA Tesla V100 GPUs to provide flexibility, high-performance computing, and cost-effectiveness.
The P2s ECS features are:
- CPU: 2nd Generation Intel® Xeon® Scalable processors (Cascade Lake Xeon Gold 6278 processors at 2.6 GHz of base frequency and 3.5 GHz of turbo frequency)
- Up to 8 NVIDIA Tesla V100 GPUs on a single ECS instance
- 32 GiB of HBM2 GPU memory per GPU with a bandwidth of 900 Gbit/s
- 14 TFLOPS of single-precision computing and 7 TFLOPS of double-precision computing
- NVIDIA Tensor cores with 112 TFLOPS of single- and double-precision computing for deep learning
- NVIDIA CUDA parallel computing and common deep learning frameworks, such as TensorFlow, Caffe, PyTorch, and MXNet
- Up to 30 Gbit/s of network bandwidth on a single ECS instance
This new ECS type is available in 4 different flavors, with a vCPU number/RAM GB ratio of 1:8.

Availability
S6 is generally available. It is now launched in eu-west-1 region (Amsterdam). S6 will become available later in eu-west-0 region (Paris).
Benefits
S6 series offers an average of 31% better compute price performance over S3 and up to 45% for small and medium instances.
S6 instances has increased performances for the same amount of vCPU and RAM over S3:
- on the network, with higher maximum throughput, guaranteed bandwidth and PPS
- on the computing, with an average 50% higher performances measured with the Phoronix Test Suite from OpenBenchmarking.org
Use Cases
S6 flavors are suited for Enterprise website deployment, enterprise office environment setup, enterprise R&D and testing activities, light-load web servers, R&D and testing environments, and low- and medium-performance databases.
Limitations
S6 maximum number of vCPU is 8.
Console / API and Resources
As all other instance flavors, the new S6 series is available through the console and API.
