People in Tech – Discover the job of Public Cloud Architect

In the “People in Tech” series, discover people and their jobs who make the #Cloud comes alive within Orange Business.
For this first episode, we meet Pokam Nouadjien, Public Cloud Architect.

Describe your background and your job

As far as my background is concerned, I have a University and Technological Diploma (DUT) specialising in telecommunication networks at IUT de Villetaneuse, after which I followed an engineering course and obtained my Master degree (Technical Architect in Computer Science and Networks). In 2018, I had the chance to join the cloud department of Orange Business as a student trainee and prepare for my last year of studies. I joined the Flexible Engine engineering team as a Public Cloud Product Architect.

At the end of my year of internship, I had the opportunity to join the Orange Business technical team as a permanent employee. Since then, I have been working as a Public Cloud Product Architect, on the Flexible Engine public cloud offer, more precisely in the network domain.

A Product Architect on Flexible Engine is responsible for the design as well as the conception and implementation with the BUILD teams of the different functionalities that we make available to the customers on our platform. He is also responsible for the sustainability of the platform and its old technology and many other tasks…

What drives you in this sector, your job, your missions?

What drives me in my business today is first of all the fact that it is booming, the cloud is now one of the fastest growing business sectors. The emergence of many technologies and innovations are directly driven by the cloud. There are constantly new things to learn and it’s challenging, but most of all extremely motivating.

What I particularly appreciate in my job is the fact that I can exchange with many teams from different parts of the world (Cairo, China…) Participating in the development of a brand new service platform on the cloud and seeing it all take shape is a great satisfaction.

Share a success you are proud of

I’d say seeing our offer grow to the point where we can provide services equal to what the biggest names in the public cloud offer.

On a personal level, I’m very proud of the path that led me to be a key member of the Flexible Engine engineering team, I’m more involved in the discussions about the design and improvement of the platform, and it’s very pleasant to step back and observe your own evolution, it gives you a lot of confidence.

What evolution would you like to see in your job?

The main evolution I liked to see was the implementation of regular telecommuting, forced by the Covid-19 pandemic. Indeed, I think that we don’t need to be 24/7 in the office to do our job, especially in the era of digital transformation of companies which must correspond to the habits and customs of the society which tends towards more and more digitised services.

Any advice for a young person who would like to enter this sector or your profession?

The best advice would be to be above all passionate, because the IT world is in perpetual evolution, it is important to be always up to date with the latest technologies and practices.

I would also advise him, if he has the possibility, to go through a course in which he can do a work-study program. This helped me enormously and above all helped me to discover the jobs that I could do later on before choosing one.

To finish, I would say that the jobs related to IT are promising and are becoming more and more essential to our society. Moreover, because the sector is buoyant, the jobs linked to it often offer good salaries, which is another argument for going into our professions.
