How to enable the Unified App Catalog in Workspace ONE

This is a follow-up of my previous blog “Integrating Workspace ONE UEM with Workspace ONE Access”.

The Unified App Catalog enables customers to provide a central application via the Intelligent HUB app. This offers the end-users a central place in which, in addition to the Workspace ONE Access applications, the mobile applications can also be displayed. The Unified Application Catalog portal only shows the applications that apply to the OS type of the endpoint device!

Since we already enabled the Workspace ONE UEM and Workspace ONE Access integration, and we are meeting with Hub Services system requirements, we can go right ahead with the configuration.

In the Workspace ONE UEM Admin Console, go to Groups & Settings, Configuration. Scroll down and select Intelligent Hub.

The Intelligent Hub page appears. Click Get Started.

As stated above, I had already configured Workspace ONE Access. Click Yes.

The Hub Services are successfully activated.

Next, we want to enable the Unified App Catalog on the endpoint devices.

Underneath the Hub Services URL, click the Launch button

The Workspace ONE Hub Services menu opens.

Note: The Workspace ONE Hub Service Menu can also be opened from Workspace ONE Access Admin Console. This is done via the Catalog, Hub Configuration menu and clicking the LAUNCH button.

How you start the Workspace ONE Hub Services doesn’t matter.

To enable the Unified App Catalog, make sure the option is enabled for all the required platforms in the App Catalog menu.

When done, scroll down and hit SAVE.

Next, you have the option to also configure other items, like Branding to define the Look & Feel for the Intelligent Hub app.

This isn’t necessary for the Unified App Catalog, so we will skip this for now.

Source of Authentication

We’re almost there. Only a few more configuration to go before we can test the end-user experience when accessing the Unified App Catalog.

In Workspace ONE UEM Admin Console, we must decide what applications to show in the Intelligent Hub App.

Go to the menu Devices & Users. General, Enrollment, tab Authentication.

Scroll down, and set the Source of Authentication. The options are:

  • Workspace ONE Access = Show both the Workspace ONE Access and Workspace ONE UEM apps
  • Workspace ONE UEM = Show only the Workspace ONE UEM apps

In my case, we want to have full-blown Unified App Catalog experience, so I have selected Workspace ONE Access.

Hit SAVE when done.

When you want the Workspace ONE UEM apps in the Unified App Catalog, make sure you enable the option to Display the app in the App Catalog in the Assignment options.

The End-User Experience

On one of my Windows 10 enrolled devices, open the Workspace ONE Intelligent Hub app.

Note: the app can also be opened by double-clicking the Intelligent Hub systray icon.

When the application is launched, we see both the Workspace ONE Access and UEM Apps!
